This document describes the methods to remove Windows boot screen, “Welcome to Windows” screen, startup/logon messages, and shutdown/logoff messages in Windows XP Embedded.

Step 1. Remove Windows boot screen

To remove the Windows boot screen, add the parameter “/noguiboot” in c:\boot.ini.

To replace the bootup splash screen with another picture, add the parameter “/bootlogo /noguiboot” in c:\boot.ini. And place a bmp file named Boot.bmp with 640x480 resolution and 16 colors in c:\windows.

Step 2. Remove “Welcome to Windows” display

If your Windows XP Embedded has “Windows Logon” component, the “Welcome to Windows” screen is shown by default. To remove “Welcome to Windows” screen, clear the check boxes of the two settings of “Windows Logon” component, “Show friendly Winlogon” and “Show "Welcome to Windows" screen before Winlogon”. After this operation, "Welcome to Windows" screen is removed.

But, the auto-logon function may be disabled. Add the “Automatic Logon” component with an appropriate setting to ensure the auto-logon function is active.

Step 3. Remove startup/logon and shutdown/logoff messages

To remove startup/logon and shutdown/logoff messages, add the following registry key and reboot.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\system\
Value name: " DisableStatusMessages "
Value: (DWORD) 1
